In recent news, we have discovered that our new home tends to get hotter than a booger-cat (to quote my father-in-law). It is so hot, in fact, that Shanee has started sweating without provocation. She sweats while sitting in our living room studying. This is, for her, a radical change in behavior. For me, however, it is an everyday occurence.
Given the intense heat, we decided to take a road trip into the hills in search of cool weather. Here's a picture of me astride our road hog--the Honda 185 XL. This little bad boy is our common mode of transportation here. It tends to be little cold-natured, so I would spend the first 30 minutes of every leg of our journey kick-starting the stupid thing until sweat was dripping from my nose. Finally I resorted to pushing it down a hill and popping the clutch, which usually resulted only in tire-screeching and the riveted attention of the entire town we happened to be leaving.
Anyway, we succeeded in finding some cool weather. As we were driving into this mountain town, a cloud had just moved in and clothed it in a cool mist. So, we dropped $2.50 for a hotel room and stayed the night. Pictured here is the common layout of a mountain town.
It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to describe what can be seen from a high perch in one of these little towns. The monstrous scale of these "hills" ( we call them mountains where I'm from) simply defies our American imaginations. It's as if one took a piece of the Missouri plains, with its green, swelling hills cut by small ravines and little creeks, and suddenly dropped the bottom out about two or three thousand feet.
The trip was a much-needed break and a time of refreshment from the One who cut these mountains.

what a fun, "cool" trip you guys took. in my town, i like to say on a daily basis, "it blazing hot" hence the reference to a fire blaze! it's been around 115 farenheit lately so i think that qualifies as blazing! love you guys, see ya in june.
