After our meetings in Thailand, we took some R & R in Vietnam. Vietnam has some suprisingly beautiful beaches, as you can enviously see here. We spent most of our time here at this little village south of Danang. Some of you may be thinking that Vietnam is a strange place to take a vacation. Well, when you live in Nepal, your definition of a vacation changes a little bit. We had a great time.

We took an overnight boat trip to this bay. Our boat was like one of the ones pictured here. This type of boat (you can see the one with its sails up on the right) is somewhat unfairly named a "junk."
In our opinion, this appellation should have been reserved for the bus that we were crammed into for 15 hours on an overnight bus trip from Hanoi to the middle of the country.

While in Hanoi we visited this charming little tourist spot: the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh. Uncle Ho's body lies in state in the bottom of this temple-like complex. Needless to say, it was an eerie feeling to be ushered (and shushed) into a small, dark room to see the body of this long-deceased, fu-man-chu-wearing cultural icon.

I plan on visiting Vietnam with my Mom and Dad in October. Dad was a Marine during the Vietnam war, he is really excited. I pray that God provided much needed refreshment.
Sounds like an amazing trip! Glad you had some much-needed R&R. Thinking of you with the tough transition back to "real life" after western food and close-at-hand friends.
