Trip West

Yesterday, Jesse, Binod, and I took a trip west to meet some Maithili brothers in Janakpur. Janakpur is a city about 3 hours west of us, on the border with India, and is considered a holy place to Hindus. Ram (one of the Hindu gods) is believed to have been born there, and there is a huge temple there in his honor. Anyway, we went there to see what the Father is doing among the Maithili people, one of the largest people groups in our country. After Nepali, the Maithili language is the most spoken language here. The Maithili people are a neglected, oppressed, poor people. There has been little work done among them. But we met some faithful Maithili brothers that we look forward to working with. We expect great things!
The first pic is Jesse with one of the Maithili brothers, standing in front of the Himals. In the second picture, you'll see that we were still in the Terai, the flattest part of Nepal at around 300 feet above sea level, and look at how clearly we could see the Himalayas! It was a beautiful drive, with the Himalayas and even Mt. Everest in sight for much of it. Driving here is rarely uneventful. During our trip, we had to stop for an hour for a mob, turn around and go on a different road, were later stopped b/c of an accident, and we got stopped and asked for money a total of 4 times! We were thankful to make it home safely.
