Life on the trail, pt. 2....

The views on the trail were simply incredible. We said many times that even if we don't make it to base camp, this was the best hike we'd ever taken. Here Shanee, Nathan, and Kari are passing by a chorten--a Tibetan Buddhist temple-like thing. There were lots of these along the trail, along with the 'mani' stones that are piled up next to Shanee. These religious stones have Tibetan writing on them and you are supposed to pass them on the left in order to get the right karma.

Here are the six intrepid, slightly dorky trekkers at a stop along the trail. This picture was taken during one of our acclimatization days. On those days we took small day hikes and stayed the night in the same lodge in order to adjust to the altitude.
I think Nathan was trying to point at the mountain behind us, but, rather fortuitously, it looks like he's making fun of Ryan's hat. And let's be honest-- who can blame him?
